Free Embroidery Pattern – Maidenhair Fern

There’s just something enchanting about ferns, isn’t there? And maidenhair fern is one of my favorites. So here is my gift to you – a free maidenhair fern embroidery pattern!

Feel free to use whatever method of pattern transfer you like best. For mine, I cut out the pattern, taped it behind my stretched fabric and then traced the design with a Frixion pen (although you could also use an air-soluble disappearing marker to trace it, which is probably my most-used method for transferring patterns onto light colored fabrics).

Here are the details for this hoop:

-Hoop size – 6 inches

-Fabric – Kona cotton (color: “Prepared for Dyeing”)

Frixion Pen

-OR-

Dritz “Fine Line” Air Soluble Marker

Lecien Cosmo Seasons variegated thread (colors: #8014 for leaves and #8021 for stems)

I used a satin stitch of varying lengths to achieve the “fan” shape for the leaves (see photo below), and I used the stem stitch (of course!) for the stems.
